Infant & Newborn Care

The Gentlest Start to Lifelong Health.

The first months and years of life are the most critical for your baby's development. At Van Every Family Chiropractic Center, we specialize in caring for the tiniest patients, from hours-old newborns to curious toddlers taking their first steps. Our ultra-gentle techniques ensure your baby gets the best possible start.

Birth is often the most physically traumatic event of our lives. Even "normal" deliveries involve significant forces on a baby's delicate spine and nervous system. Up to 60-90 lbs of force can be applied to a baby's head and neck during natural delivery, while C-sections, vacuum or forceps deliveries, prolonged labor, and breech positions create their own unique stresses. Even in the gentlest circumstances, birth can create misalignments that affect your baby's nervous system function, feeding, sleep, and development.

Early Care Matters

Many of our youngest patients are seen within days, sometimes hours, of birth. Early care can address birth trauma and support optimal development from the very beginning.

Signs Your Baby May Benefit from Care

Plain language context before you read the full guide.

Patterns To Notice

  • Difficulty Latching: Trouble nursing or preferring one side only, often related to neck tension from birth.
  • Excessive Crying: Inconsolable crying, colic symptoms, or apparent discomfort that traditional remedies haven't resolved.
  • Sleep Difficulties: Trouble falling asleep, frequent waking, or restless sleep patterns.
  • Head Tilt or Preference: Head tilted or turned to one side, favoring one direction when lying down.
  • Reflux & Spitting Up: Excessive spit-up, apparent discomfort after feeding, or arching back during feeds.
  • Developmental Milestones: Not meeting milestones, difficulty with tummy time, or delayed rolling, sitting, or crawling.

How We Help Your Baby

  • Ultra-Gentle Techniques: Pressure used is about the same as checking a ripe tomato or touching your closed eyelid. No cracking or popping, ever. Babies often sleep through adjustments.
  • Nervous System Support: Proper spinal alignment supports optimal nervous system function, which supports healthy development of all milestones from head control to first steps.
  • Comfortable for Baby: Adjustments can be done while nursing, sleeping, or in a parent's arms. We work with baby's natural movements, no restraint is ever needed.
  • Research-Backed Safety: Studies confirm the safety of pediatric chiropractic care. Our techniques are specifically designed for infants and their developing bodies.

What to Expect at Your Baby's First Visit

Our doctors take a thorough, gentle approach to evaluating and caring for your infant.

1

Detailed History & Examination

We ask about pregnancy, birth, feeding, sleep, and any concerns. This is followed by a gentle examination checking spine, reflexes, and nervous system function.

2

Neurological Assessment

A gentle, non-invasive nervous system evaluation (if baby cooperates!). We'll show you exactly what we find and explain our recommendations clearly.

3

Gentle Adjustment & Care Plan

Using Talsky Tonal Chiropractic and KST techniques, our doctors deliver extraordinarily gentle adjustments, often no more pressure than you'd use to test a ripe tomato, that are safe and comfortable even for newborns. Infant adjustments take just seconds, most parents say "That was it?" because of how gentle they are. We then create a tailored care plan for your baby's needs.

Questions Parents And Adults Ask

Is chiropractic safe for newborns?

Absolutely. Our doctors use techniques specifically designed for infants. The pressure is about the same as checking a ripe tomato, incredibly light. There is no cracking or popping. Babies routinely sleep through their adjustments. Research confirms the safety of pediatric chiropractic care.

When should I bring my newborn in?

Ideally within the first few days or weeks of life. The sooner we can address any birth-related misalignments, the better. Key times include within 72 hours of birth, when symptoms or concerns arise, after falls or accidents, and before developmental leaps.

What conditions can chiropractic help with in infants?

Common infant conditions that respond well to gentle care include colic, breastfeeding difficulties, torticollis, reflux and spitting up, sleep difficulties, constipation, ear infections, and plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome).

How many visits will my baby need?

Every baby is different. Some respond quickly with just a few visits, while others benefit from regular care over several weeks. Our doctors will create a plan tailored to your baby's specific needs and adjust it based on their response.
