Webster Technique Prenatal Care

Sacral Analysis & Pelvic Balance for Pregnancy.

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment designed to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation and improve neurobiomechanical function in the mother's pelvis. At Van Every Family Chiropractic Center, our doctors are certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

As defined by the ICPA: "The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction. In so doing, neurobiomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region is improved." This technique can be beneficial throughout all trimesters of pregnancy to support pelvic function as the mother's body changes.

Scope of Practice

As chiropractors, we provide care for the mother. We do not turn, reposition, or treat the fetus, that is outside the scope of chiropractic practice. The Webster Technique specifically addresses the mother's sacral alignment, pelvic biomechanics, and associated soft tissues. Any physiological changes that occur are a result of the mother's body functioning more optimally.

Common Reasons Mothers Seek Webster Care

Patterns To Notice

  • Lower Back Pain: Back pain during pregnancy is extremely common as your center of gravity shifts and hormonal changes affect ligament laxity.
  • Sacroiliac Joint Discomfort: SI joint pain or instability caused by the expanding pelvis and the effects of relaxin hormone on joint structures.
  • Hip & Pelvic Pain: Discomfort in the hips or pelvis that increases as pregnancy progresses, making daily activities and sleep difficult.
  • General Pregnancy Discomfort: Overall body aches and discomfort that come with the physical demands of growing and carrying a baby.
  • Nervous System Support: Desire to support the mother's comfort, movement, and nervous system function throughout pregnancy.
  • Pelvic Balance Maintenance: Proactive care to maintain optimal pelvic alignment and biomechanics as the body changes throughout pregnancy.

Benefits for the Mother

  • Improved Pelvic Balance: Better SI joint function and overall pelvic biomechanics for greater comfort, stability, and optimal function throughout pregnancy.
  • Nervous System Support: Our care is directed at the mother's pelvic mechanics, sacral function, comfort, and surrounding soft-tissue tension.
  • Comfort Support: Many mothers report improved comfort with low back, hip, and pelvic stress that are common during pregnancy.

The Webster Technique Process

Our doctors are ICPA Webster Certified, ensuring proper knowledge and skill in this specific sacral analysis and adjustment technique.

1

Sacral Analysis & Assessment

Our doctors evaluate the position and movement of your sacrum (the triangular bone at the base of your spine), along with your pelvis, associated muscles, and ligaments. You'll be positioned comfortably using pregnancy pillows or specialized tables.

2

Gentle Sacral Adjustment & Soft Tissue Work

Using Talsky Tonal Chiropractic and KST techniques, we use gentle adjustments adapted for pregnancy, with no lying face-down required. A specific, gentle input is made for sacral and pelvic function, followed by evaluation and gentle attention to associated pelvic muscles and ligaments including the round ligament.

3

Ongoing Care Throughout Pregnancy

Frequency is determined based on your individual needs and response to care. Care may be adapted throughout pregnancy to support pelvic balance, comfort, and function as your body changes.

Questions Parents And Adults Ask

What exactly is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. It focuses on reducing the effects of sacral subluxation and SI joint dysfunction, improving neurobiomechanical function in the sacral and pelvic region. It was developed specifically for pregnant mothers and is taught through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

Does the Webster Technique turn breech babies?

No. Our care is directed at the mother: pelvic mechanics, sacral function, comfort, and surrounding soft-tissue tension. We do not turn, reposition, or treat the baby, and we do not claim to affect fetal position. Any fetal movement or positioning should be discussed with the patient's OB or midwife.

When should I start Webster Technique care?

The technique is beneficial throughout all trimesters. While many mothers seek care later in pregnancy, starting earlier allows us to maintain pelvic balance from the beginning as your body changes. There is no wrong time to start.

How is Webster care adapted during pregnancy?

The technique is gentle and specifically designed for pregnant mothers. You'll be positioned comfortably throughout the adjustment. Our doctors have completed specialized ICPA training, and pregnancy-related questions should stay coordinated with your OB or midwife.
